Competições radioamadorísticas (contests) têm por objetivo fazer com que os radioamadores de todo o mundo efetuem o maior número possível de contatos com o maior número possível de países durante um determinado espaço de tempo (geralmente aos finais de semana)
Em dezembro, o ARRL 10m International Contest, promovido pela Liga Norte Americana de Radioamadores (https://www.arrl.org/), usa apenas uma faixa do espectro radioamadorístico, a banda de 10 metros (28 a 29,7 MHz), bastante dependente das condições ionosféricas para possibilitar mais contados.
Nos últimos anos, arrisquei participação nesse “contest” na modalidade “MIXED” (com telegrafia e fonia) e com potência mínima, conhecida entre os radioamadores como “QRP” (até 5 watts). As outras categorias em termos de potência envolvem “LP” (até 100 watts) e “HP” (até 1000 watts).

A melhor pontuação já alcançada na modalidade QRP foi em 2015, com 123.000 pontos:
Um ano antes, tinha feito minha última incursão na categoria “LP_Mixed” usando 100 watts e atingindo 564.000 pontos.
Meu objetivo inicial para o “ARRL 10m International Contest” de 2022 era de ao menos 150 contatos, mas as condições de propagação surpreenderam, mantendo-me ativo por mais tempo do que o habitual e gerando assim, mais de 600 contatos.

Score: 348.168 (1 Mult = 3,4 Q's).

O resultado foi definitivamente inesperado, por sua própria grandeza e pelos limites que havia imposto a mim mesmo, destacando como os 10 metros podem ser profícuos quando a propagação está aberta no todo ou em parte - ou como diz PP5JR “no meters is like 10 meters”. Os contatos foram bem distribuídos entre sábado (323) e domingo (286).
Como sempre, na modalidade QRP, não é proveitoso permanecer muito tempo chamando geral (CQ) e aguardando respostas. Vale a pena vasculhar as frequências, procurando estações e tentando marcar com elas (S&P - search & pounce). Mesmo assim, a proporção entre um modo e outro também surpreendeu:

Além da propagação, foi a primeira participação no “ARRL 10” com as alterações introduzidas aqui em PY2NY, com a nova torre de 30m e cabo coaxial CellFlex de ½ polegada. O rádio continua o bom e velho Yaesu FT 1000 MP MK_V Field, ajustado para 5 watts com wattímetro de ponteiro, antena tribanda KLM KT34XA, logging program N1MM. Controlador e interface Microham MK2R+.

Amateur radio competitions (contests) aim to make radio amateurs around the world do as many contacts as possible with as many countries as possible during a given period of time (generally on weekends).
In December, the “ARRL 10m International Contest”, promoted by the North American League of Radio Amateurs (https://www.arrl.org/), uses only one part of the amateur radio spectrum, the 10-meter band (28 to 29.7 MHz) , quite dependent on ionospheric conditions to allow more counts.
In recent years, I risked participating in this “contest” in the “MIXED” mode (with telegraphy and phone) and minimum power, known among radio amateurs as “QRP” (up to 5 watts). The other categories in terms of power involve “LP” (up to 100 watts) and “HP” (up to 1000 watts).
My scores for the past two years:
2020: Nr. 1 Brazil and SouthAmerica and Nr. 1 World (43,792 points)
2021: Nr. 2 Brasil, SA and World (19.008 points)
The best score ever achieved by myself in the QRP modality was in 2015, with 123,000 points - Nr. 1 Brazil and SouthAmerica and Nr. 1 World.
A year earlier, I had made my last foray into the “LP_Mixed” category using 100 watts and hitting 564,000 points.
My initial goal for the 2022 “ARRL 10m International Contest” was at least 150 contacts, but the propagation conditions surprised me, keeping me active longer than usual, generating more than 600 contacts.

The result was definitely unexpected, due to its magnitude and the limits I had imposed on myself, highlighting how the 10 meters can be fruitful when the propagation is open in whole or in part - or as PP5JR says “no meters is like 10 meters”. Contacts were well distributed between Saturday (323) and Sunday (286).
As always, in QRP mode, it is not profitable to spend a long time calling general (CQ) and waiting for answers. It's worth digging through the frequencies, looking for stations and trying to call them (S&P - search & pounce). Even so, the ratio between one mode and another was also surprising:

In addition to propagation, it was the first participation in “ARRL 10” with the changes introduced here at PY2NY, with the new 30m tower and ½ inch CellFlex coaxial cable. The radio remains the good and old Yaesu FT 1000 MP MK_V Field, set to 5 watts with pointer wattmeter, KLM KT34XA triband antenna, N1MM logging program. Microham MK2R+ controller and interface.

The RAW scores gave me a nice result for now, restoring me to the Nr. 1 in Brasil, South America and World.
There were many Brazilians in the various classification possibilities, with dozens of them ranked as “Top 10” in the World.
