Russian DX Contest 2008

This is a copy of posted message for diverse reflectors, talking about my participation in the ham radio competition Russian Dx Contest, last weekend, from Araraquara, 65 km from Jaboticabal. Remember, this is PS2T station, PY5EG owner.

Ok, this is PY2NY Russian DX Contest Story.

1) Propagation

I was waiting for something better, specially on 80m. The "safe boat" could be 10m band, in which I had made interesting things from my house, but the propagation also did not help here.

2) Radios

FT9000DX as always, with limitless resources, and the FT2000 with excellent performance. After using this setup at least three times, I developed a better taste using 2000.

3) Linear

Acom 2000 gone away minutes before the contest, substituted by my personal Amplifier Acom 1010. This small notable amp revealed being reliable, robust, and extremely practical.

The Alpha 77Dx with FT2000 had formed a wonderful, also practical and fast set, with bigger fire capacity than the 9000 /Acom 1010.

4) Antennas

The MonstIR (of the SteppIR group) gave a show on 40m, but I did not find the right moment to take advantage on the band. Stacks on 10 and 15 had given wonderful income, with great surprise on 15m, excellent running in the last competition hour. I missed K9AY in reception, long ago installed on this mega station.

5) Computers

N1MM was excelent and was updated to version 7.10.17 before the contest. However, with the new computer of PS2T, I perceived something that compelled me to reboot some times. After transmiting CW for some time, the command was erratic, giving the impression that the transmission, instead of the perfect "iambic", revealed more similar to vibroplex… After to rebooting, everything came back again to normal for some time… This doesn't happen in my house, but of what I could feel, it has something related with the RF power.

6) Coincidences

Please, watch my QSO table… I did not make this thinking on it! Exactly the same number of contacts in CW and SSB! You can try lottery.

7) Gratefulness

I am thankful with Marcos, Danilo and Rogério, that given logistic support for this activity, and especially to PY5EG, that gentily yielded the station for this activity. I could not honor him with better results, because now we have Sao Miguel Arcanjo running together (PY2NDX and PY2YU new station) hi hi hi.

Thanks for leaving me run with my own callsign, giving me great joy being recognized for a lot of world comrades. For 24-hour contests, and from this mega station, my personal record is still IARU 2007, with 100 contacts / hour, what guaranteed the fifth world-wide place that year.

8) Recognition

All scores on the lists of Internet, including 3830, GDXG, Araucaria, River, TuPY and others, had been significant. I am imagining if the propagation was a little bit better, what it would have been…

Independently of this, we need to recognize that the level of the Brazilian operators, as already mentioned for other colleagues, is improving considerably.

9) Next?

WPX SSB, last March weekend. I still don't know what will be with me. Need to implement changes in my tower, therefore the KT-34-XA have high SWR on 20 and 15 meters. The Alpha 91B is with erratic behavior and the FT1000 Field N. 002, voluntarily, still did not return to shack. But everything is valid and the nice is to participate of the party.

Esta é uma cópia da mensagem que postei para diversos refletores, contando em linhas sucintas a minha participação na competição radioamadorística Russian Dx Contest, do último final de semana, a partir de Araraquara, distante 65 km de Jaboticabal.

 

Agora sim, segue com mais cuidado a pontuação total do RDXC.

1) Propagação

Esperava algo melhor, especialmente em 80m, mas não tive sucesso. A tábua da salvação poderia ser a banda de 10m, na qual tenho feito coisas interessantes em minha casa, mas a propagação também não ajudou aqui.

 

2) Rádios

FT9000DX como sempre, com recursos ilimitados, e o FT2000 com ótimo desempenho. Nas últimas oportunidades em que usei este setup, desenvolvi um apreço melhor pelo tão malhado 2000.

 

3) Lineares

O Acom 2000 saiu de campo antes mesmo do início do contest, substituído pelo Acom 1010 de minha propriedade. Este pequeno notável mostrou-se digno de confiança, robusto, e extremamente prático.

O Alpha 77Dx com o FT2000 formaram um conjunto maravilhoso, também prático e rápido e com capacidade de fogo maior do que o conjunto 9000 / Acom 1010.

 

4) Antenas

A MonstIR (do grupo SteppIR) deu show em 40m, mas não achei o momento adequado para tirar melhor proveito nessa banda. No mais, as stacks em 10 e 15 deram rendimento maravilhoso, com grande surpresa em 15m, com ótimo running na última meia hora de competição. Senti muita falta da K9AY em recepção, outrora instalada na megaestação.

 

5) Informática

O N1MM deu show de bola, e foi atualizado antes dacompetição para a versão 7.10.17. Todavia, já com o novo computador de PS2T, percebi algo que me obrigou a rebootar várias vezes. Após transmitir em CW por algum tempo, o comando ficava meio errático, dando a impressão que a transmissão, ao invés de se dar com o perfeito "iambico", mostrava-se mais parecida com os vibroplex da vida... Após rebootar, tudo voltava ao normal por algum tempo novamente... Isto não acontece em casa, mas do que pude sentir, talvez haja algo relacionado com a potência.

 

6) Coincidência

Vejam a tabela de QSOs... Não fiz isso de caso pensado!! Exatamente o mesmo número de contatos em CW e SSB !! Podem jogar no bicho.

 

7) Agradecimento

Agradeço ao Marcos, Danilo e Rogério, que deram todo o suporte logístico para esta atividade, e especialmente ao PY5EG, que cedeu gentilmente a estação para esta atividade. Não pude honrá-lo com melhor resultado, porque agora há São Miguel Arcanjo na parada hi hi hi.

Grato por deixar-me usar meu próprio indicativo; o que me deu a grande alegria de ser imediatamente reconhecido por dezenas de camaradas de todo o mundo. Para um conteste de 24 horas, a partir desta mega estação, meu recorde pessoal ainda é o IARU 2007, durante o qual mantive média de 100 contatos por hora, o que garantiu o quinto lugar mundial naquele ano.

 

8) Reconhecimento

Todos os scores que vi lançados nas listas de internet, incluindo 3830, GDXG, Araucaria, Rio-DX, TuPY e outros, foram significativos. Fico imaginando se a propagação estivesse apenas um pouquinho melhor, o que teria sido...

Independentemente disto, há que se reconhecer que o nível dos operadores brasileiros, como já mencionado por outros colegas, está melhorando consideravelmente.

9) Próximo??

WPX SSB, no último final de semana do mês de março. Não sei ainda o que será. Preciso implementar mudanças em minha torre, pois a KT-34-XA está com SWR alta em 20 e 15 metros. O Alpha 91B está com comportamento errático e o FT1000 Field n. 002, por vontade própria, não retornou ainda ao shack. Mas tudo é válido e o legal é participar da festa.
